Upper Deck Football Hobby Boxes
The Upper Deck company was founded as a private company in 1988, with the intention of creating a new sports card company, and in 1989 Upper Deck released its first series of Baseball cards. The 1990 set was the first to feature randomly inserted autographed cards, and thus began the craze for autograph and memorabilia cards.Ever since its early days, Upper Deck has consistently been at the top of the card market. In 1990, UD signed a licensing deal with the NFL and has been distributing football cards ever since. The improved photography and glossy stock sent a shock around the trading card industry and forced other card manufacturers to step up their game, resulting in better quality cards across the board.
A notable subset of the Upper Deck brand of cards is the Upper Deck Exquisite Collection. The collection was premiered in the 2003-2004 NBA season, and consisted of 5 cards per pack, with each card being a very limited edition rookie or veteran star autograph or relic card. The packs retailed at $500 a piece. Upper Deck went on to release Exquisite sets in other sports, with the NFL starting in 2005. The Exquisite football collection has gone on to become one of the most popular sets in the series.
